JOIN US!

The following are our rules and guide lines for membership in A Coy, 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion Living History Unit.  Our rules are very simple, and once involved you will have a clearer understanding why they are in place .  They are here so that everyone may enjoy to the same degree as the next member as well to insure the quality of our impression.  If  these rules are not for you, then this is not for you.....It's that simple!

NEW MEMBERSHIP

In order to become a member of A coy, 1st Can Para , recruits will be sponsored by a unit member in good standing.  The sponsoring member will assist the recruit in obtaining kit, learning drill and learning about the Battalions history.  All new members will have one year to complete the "required" kit list.  Regular membership age is 18 years or older.  Members of A Coy , 1st Can Para must pay annual dues of twenty five Canadian dollars due the first month of the year.  These proceeds will go towards our web site and newsletters.  New members will not have voting privileges until they have attended one event as part of this unit.  After this event the new member will be subject to unit approval of their membership by way of a vote.  To retain your membership standing you must attend at least one event per year and attend all scheduled meetings.  Becoming a living history reenactor of this period is not an inexpensive hobby, our members have made an investment not only for themselves but for the betterment of our unit,so our guidelines must be followed!

RANK

Rank will be assigned by the Unit Commander.  New members will start out as enlisted personal (Pvt.) and will advance in rank according to the number of new members they recruit. The only exception to this entry rank would be for a medical corman, which is a limited position, this person would start with a rank of Lance Corporal.  To accurately portray A Coy, we cannot stray far from their unit set up, in reference to ratios of Officers/NCO's/enlisted personel. Service chevrons denote years of service, ours will denote the same. All members should be wearing 4 red chevrons just above the cuff on the right sleeve, the white chevron which denoted the soldier had signed up during the first year of the war (1939) are reserved for charter members only.  Thus charter members will have 5 in total ( 4 red , 1 white). The white chevron will be worn closest to the cuff.

MEDALS AND MEDAL RIBBONS

We did not earn them so we do not wear them.  It is illegal in Canada to wear medals you did not earn.  If a member joins us who has earned medals or ribbons during the post war years they would not be historically correct so they are not allowed.

EXPECTATIONS

The following expectations are necessary to accurately portray members of this elite World War II force. There will be no exceptations!

Haircuts and facial hair will be of typical WWII military style. No beards, moustaches must be neat and trimmed,if extend beyond the lip, they must be waxed, no goatees, taper cut at the rear, sideburns will not extend beyond halfway down the ear.  Members must be fit and maintain a neat appearance at all times. Wrist watches will be analog type with a military style band.  Eyeglasses when worn will be in military or period style frames.

All of the above rules are in place to provide a better impression.  As with any rule they are made to be changed but this will only happen during a regular meeting when members are in attendance to vote on any proposed changes, additions or deletions to the above.
